3 Healthy Drinks to Enjoy This Holiday Season

The Christmas season is upon us, and it is the time of year to indulge in your favorite food and drink with the people you hold closest to you. The cold weather means you need to have something that keeps you warm, and what is better than a nice hot drink on a frosty night? Unfortunately, many of these delicious foods and drinks that people love to enjoy during this period aren’t the best for you; however, there is a way around this. 

There are plenty of healthy Christmas drinks that are just as tasty as the ones you are used to, but won’t pile on the calories when you are trying to keep slim. See below for some ideas of healthy drinks you can enjoy during this festive period that taste great and won’t leave you with the same guilty feeling you get after having something unhealthy.

Red Velvet Smoothie

First up on this list is the red velvet smoothie which is super simple to make and is absolutely mouth-watering. To make your red velvet smoothie, you will need a banana, two dates, a cup of coconut milk, and a tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder. Take all of these ingredients and blend them together using a blender. This won’t take long to blend, and you will be left with a silky smooth smoothie. Before you enjoy your tasty concoction, you must first use a strainer to get any unwanted bits out. 

To finish this smoothie, take a scoop of coconut and add it to your glass with the smoothie. If you want to be extra fancy, you can crush up some almonds and sprinkle them on top for a nutty kick. You don’t need to add sugar to this drink because the dates are naturally sweet and are the perfect alternative that keeps your drink healthy whilst still being full of delicious flavor.

Vegan Hot Chocolate

Some people think you must use full milk to make the perfect hot chocolate; however, this could not be further from the truth. Coconut milk is a fantastic substitute for whole milk and adds a unique twist to classic hot chocolate.

To make this vegan hot chocolate, you will need around half a cup of coconut milk, to which you will add between 2 and 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder (unsweetened) and a tablespoon of cinnamon powder. Top up your mixture with half a cup of water to finish making the perfect vegan hot chocolate that is bursting with flavor and still very healthy. Cinnamon is a great ingredient as it adds a powerful flavor to your drink that would normally require a load of sugar, and it has benefits to your health, so it is a no-brainer. 

Spiced Honey and Cinnamon Warm Drink

If you have been outside in the cold weather all day and need something warm to heat you up then this spiced honey and cinnamon drink will be perfect for you. Honey and cinnamon are two ingredients that are not only delicious to have in a drink but also have a range of health benefits that will help you stay in tip-top condition through the winter months and festive period. 

This drink is super easy to make and doesn’t take much time or skill to prepare. First, you will want to take two cups of milk and heat them up using either a pot on the stove or a microwave. The milk that you choose to use is entirely your choice. This drink works well with almond milk, coconut, and whole milk, so you can decide what you prefer to have.

The next step is to start adding spices to your drink. Add an entire vanilla pod, a cinnamon stick, two cardamons, a tablespoon of honey, and four cloves. Once you have added all of the above ingredients to your drink, let the spices simmer on heat so the flavor can be fully released into your drink.

Once you think your drink has the flavor you want, you can turn off the heat and let the pot rest for around 10 minutes. After this time has passed, strain your milk to remove all of the spices, leaving you with your delicious spiced honey and a cinnamon hot drink. If you want to garnish your drink, you can add an extra scoop of honey and some cinnamon powder to the top of your mug.
